Sustainability Criteria Certification
in accordance with the RED III Directive
Certification of Biomass for Energy, Heat and Cooling Purposes
In accordance with the provisions of the RED III Directive, certification will be required for all entities engaged in the production and sale of biomass for energy and heating purposes, as well as for entities generating heat, power, and cooling from biomass fuels.
New requirements for biomass producers mean that the sourcing, production, processing, and sale of solid biomass for energy purposes will require obtaining a certificate confirming compliance with sustainability criteria issued under one of the certification schemes recognized by the European Commission.
This obligation also applies to producers of energy, heat, and cooling from biomass, including producers using co-firing of biomass fuels with fossil or alternative fuels.
Implementation
BIOCONTROL is a leader in the implementation of systems based on the requirements of the RED III Directive for the professional energy sector, district heating, and industry.
As part of its services, BIOCONTROL offers implementation, documentation development, and preparation for certification of the Sustainability Criteria system in accordance with the directives of the European Parliament and Council 98/70/EC and 2009/28/EC.
This covers the assessment and qualification of biomass suppliers for energy purposes, as well as preparing organizations for KZR system certification by an authorized Certification Body.
Stages of the Certification Process
Development of the required procedures for a system based on the RED Directive requirements (system principles, definition of the system scope within the organization including identification of biomass raw material flow streams, risk assessment, mass balance system, procedures for obtaining information and data from sustainable biomass suppliers, etc.) and implementation of these requirements.
Consultation on risk analysis of suppliers and establishment of a qualified biomass suppliers list. As part of the system preparation, training will also be conducted on the requirements specified in the RED Directive and current legal regulations.
Our company’s consultant will actively participate in the development of the system documentation, propose solutions which will then be jointly reviewed and approved together with management and the working team.
The project concludes with a certification audit conducted by an authorized certification body. The purpose of the certification audit is to confirm compliance with the standard’s requirements.
Upon a successful audit result, the certification body issues a certificate confirming that the audited system complies with the specified certification scheme.
The certification process is conducted by competent certification bodies that have a certification program and carry out assessments according to the standard selected by you. Biocontrol ensures that the implemented system complies with the requirements of any Certification Body you choose.
The Certification Body you select assigns a certificate number following a successful certification audit, which is then registered in the database of certified entities maintained by the Certification System Administrator.
Expert with the greatest experience
Five leading energy groups have chosen BIOCONTROL as the exclusive provider of verification and qualification audit services for biomass fuel suppliers.
Every year, over one million tons of biomass certified by BIOCONTROL is combusted in renewable energy installations to produce “green energy.”
Operating in the field of biomass authentication for energy purposes, we have conducted over 2,000 verification audits of biomass origin sources and renewable fuel suppliers for the largest renewable energy producers in Poland and abroad.
Over 400 comprehensive system implementation projects completed in the field of verification and authentication of biomass for energy purposes for all types of entities involved in the biomass supply chain for energy use, concluded with the issuance of certificates by authorized Certification Bodies.
We adhere to the principles of ISO/IEC 17021, which apply to all certification bodies and concern their impartiality and prohibition of improper relationships with organizations providing consulting services. BIOCONTROL is not affiliated with any Certification Body.
